Will the new year see a better Barca?
Mauricio Pochettino will be the guest of honour at the RCDE Stadium tonight as city rivals RCD Espanyol will go head to head against FC Barcelona Sunday at 1:45 AM NST. FC Barcelona will be looking to rejuvenate with a Catalan Derby win after a series of lackluster performance in the 2019 half of the season. Espanyol, on the other hand, will be looking to ruin Barca’s new year amidst the city dwellers.
The Derbi barceloní has been a historically important clash that has been able to showcase the city to the world. While FC Barcelona have always been the favourites to win the clash, Espanyol will look to disintegrate Ernesto Valverde’s La Liga hunt. Espanyol are at an all-time low Liga derby drought as they’ve failed to win the last 20 successive Liga derbies. A win for Espanyol will mean hardships for FC Barcelona, as the 26-time Liga winners are just two points clear at the top and second-placed Madrid have an early kickoff against Getafe.
Neto Murara will be keeping the nets for Barcelona as Marc Andre ter Stegen is sidelined due to a tendon injury. Arthur Melo and Ousmane Dembele are out with injuries and are expected to be back later this month.
Youngster Ansu Fati is back after a short-term recovery as the youngster looks to make 2020 his.
